Friedrich M. Zimmermann (PhD), since 1997 full Professor and Chair at the Department of Geography and Regional Science. Director of RCE Graz-Styria and director of the Center for Regional Studies at the University of Graz. Founding Vice Dean of the Faculty for Environmental, Regional and Educational Sciences (2007). Former Vice Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer at the University of Graz (2000 – 2007). Former University Council member of the University of Klagenfurt (2008 – 2012). Visiting professor at the University of Munich, Germany; Fulbright fellowships 1991 (Elizabethtown College, PA) and 1994 (Portland State University), teaching affiliations with Portland State University, Portland Oregon, Drexel University and Holy Family College, Philadelphia. Founding President of the COPERNICUS Alliance – European Network on Higher Education for Sustainable Development (2008 – 2011). Besides numerous published articles in books and reviewed journals, co-editor of the books Tourism and Development in Mountain Regions (CAB International, 1999), Regional Policies in Europe (Leykam 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004), resource editor of Tourism Geographies (Routledge), and editorial board member of Tourism, Culture and Communication (Cognizant Communications). Work with several international and interdisciplinary teams in research projects of the UNESCO and UNU-IAS, the European Council, the European Science Foundation, the European Partners for the Environment, the Austrian Development Co-operation, the Austrian Academy of Science, and in EU projects, like EU ENRICH Program, EU INTERREG IIIC, EU INTERREG IVb, EU ESPON, EU e-Learning Programme, TEMPUS etc.
